EducationBachelor's Degree in Music with Selected Studies in Mathematics from Stetson University
ExperienceI am a professional musician with an extensive background in mathematics. I maintained a 3.9 GPA throughout my undergraduate degree, getting A's in classes such as ordinary differential equations, linear algebra, and complex variables. By the time I finished high school, I had already earned 59 college credits by successfully passing 11 AP exams and teaching myself Calculus III independently. I have tutored middle school, high school, and college level students, helping them succeed in all levels of mathematics from Algebra to Calculus, and I want to do the same for you!
My philosophy is that mathematical concepts are best learned when they are presented to us in such a way that they relate to our individual lives. When we are able to draw connections between abstract ideas and the things we consider truly important, we are better able to retain what was learned. The advantage of one-to-one tutoring is that one is able to build more on the personal interaction between student and tutor, realizing that every person is unique and will have different strengths, weaknesses, and styles of learning.
As a person, I am known for being patient, caring, creative, and knowledgeable. As a tutor, my goal is to show you new ways of looking at mathematics, so that it becomes less intimidating, more personally relevant, and perhaps even (!) enjoyable.
As mentioned above, I am also a professional musician and published composer who recently finished four years of performing for an international cruise line. I am an experienced music teacher as well and give lessons in trombone, baritone/euphonium, tuba, and beginner to intermediate level piano.
